XAGRO Opens Plant #5 in Nueva Guinea

July 16th 2012 -
Nicaragua: XAGRO S.A. Celebrated the opening of Plant #5 in Nueva Guinea, RAAS Nicaragua. The plant will be used primarily to process Malanga Lila, locally known as Quequisque. The plant is registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with Food Facility Registration Number #16478720830.

Malanga Lila exports from Nicaragua continue to grow as more buyers become aware of the higher quality offered compared to other countries. In the first 5 months of this year, exports rose from $2,364,086.40 in 2011 to $3,737,077.91

"This new location will allow us to increase production to five containers per week relieving the order backlog" stated Ronald Ehli, CEO of XAGRO at the opening ceremony. "The plant should also reduce the amount of malanga being shipped over the border to Costa Rica for repacking, keeping the jobs here in Nicaragua" commented Ehli. The new location is strategically located on a 10 acre site at the intersection with the new highway, which is under construction, connecting Nueva Guinea to Bluefields. "With this prime location and the new road opening we are in a great position to continue to grow our cassava, quequisque, and coconut exports. The highway will give us year around access to previously inaccessible product".
