XAGRO grows adding Dominican Republic coconuts

September 18th 2013 -
Nicaragua: XAGRO S.A. Announced today that they have added dry coconuts from Dominican Republic to their product line.

With an investment in Dominican Republic, a new division has been created which will expand coconut exports to the US East Coast, Canada, and markets in the European Union. "This continues our growth in the coconut trade and will allow us to better serve our base of high volume clients" stated Ronald Ehli, CEO of XAGRO. "With over 80% of the United States dry coconuts coming from DR, and our interest in growing our coconut trade, it only made sense for us to add a facility here. We are very excited, he continued.

Mr. Carlos Valdez, a local businessman with over 8 years of export experience, will become the new Director of Operations in Dominican Republic. Mr. Valdez stated that "with XAGRO we will be able to assure coconut farmers a fair price and at the same time create many new good paying jobs in our plant". XAGRO plans to hire a staff of 60, mostly women, in the new plant cleaning and preparing coconuts for export.

The new plant will begin filling orders in October 2013 and already has commitments for several containers per week.
